Heritage Restoration and Extension
1900s original 2-bedroom cottage
Block size: 213m
Architect: Brad Inwood Architects
Our recent heritage restoration, remodel and extension of this original 1900s two-bedroom cottage in Randwick consisted of liaising with the local Heritage Board to diagnose which materials and styles were to be used to complete the project.
The aim was to provide a seamless transition from old to new with a modern twist, ensuring the new kitchen, dining, living and alfresco areas matched the rest of the house. The intricacies of heritage work can’t be underestimated, however the LifeSpace Building team has an abundance of knowledge in this field and were quickly able to identify exactly what was needed to roll out the task at hand.
The bulk of the restoration work came in the front bedroom where one side of the house had subsided. To underpin the existing footings the original Karri Pine Hardwood floorboards had to be removed along with a substantial amount of paneling from the walls. This was replaced with recycled Karri Hardwood on the floor while a mixture of original and new V Groove paneling was used to rebuild and restore the walls.
